“Equality” is a collection drawing inspiration from the many racial divides as well as the social, economic and political inequities permeating Western society. This collection is an exploration of the grey space oscillating between colours – vying to unify the opposing concepts.
There are an assortment of statement pieces balanced with more subtle political undertones.
Bold contrasts with thick outlines are balance out by more textural – angular -geometric – concepts. “Equality”, in essence represents empowerment – the credo that equality is in direct relation to societal harmony. Hyland uses clothing as a vehicle to communicate deeper symbolic narratives about our collective human culture. “Equality” is meant to convey the stratification of people, helping to bridge the divides and to enhance cultural inclusivity.
